If you have any interest in servicing your local businesses and showing them how they can have a good and strong web presence on the Search Engines then I have something to say to you.
First let me start by saying that I do love being an internet marketer. Making money online is something I worked long and hard for and it paid off.
Back to being a Local Business Marketer.
It used to be when people would ask me what I did I would shuffle phrases around like “online marketer” – usually they give you that blank stare. Then I would try “web designer” for awhile and that had more understanding – sort of – they would at least have a couple of questions like “who do you work for?” or “how much would you charge me for a web site?” Where I would then have to explain that I design websites to sell affiliate products – then back to the 10000 foot stare!
I finally decided to tell people I was a “Publisher”. But again the response was still one of confusion or disinterest. I mean NOT that I NEED to be the bell of the ball but it is a little tiring to not have an interesting response.
You might think saying the obvious of “I make money online” would be interesting – but – it attracts the WRONG kind of interest. “Hey, can you teach ME to make money online?” “Really? are your one of those people I delete out of my inbox every morning” or – most often “What do you mean?”
Out of all that the only response that I ever gave that had any real tangible grain of understanding with anyone was “web designer” And being a big fan and firm believer in MSI’s (multiple sources of income) I would occasionally build a website for someone.
Then I had a buddy with a small business ask me to set him up online. So I did and SEO’d him the way I would any of my affiliate blog’s and ‘boom’ there he was on page one for many competitive keywords. BUT his competition was above him in the paid rankings and I don’t do a lot of PPC so I tried to help him out but found I was into something now I had no Idea what I was doing.
As always I like to shortcut my learning curve by looking for courses online and sure enough Ryan Deiss was promoting the “Instant Local Traffic” course – so I bought it. Very impressed! That was my second introduction to Laura Betterly (my first was during a RAW training in the DM Lab (which is something I highly recommend for anyone who is serious about being an internet marketer).
I will tell you this – Laura is completely dedicated to the success of her students. During the coaching calls she stays on the line, talking to us, answering questions – until all the questions are answered. I have been in coaching calls where she stayed well over two hours helping us.
Just as a side – as a member of DM Lab, you get up-to-date info that you don’t get any place else. I guess the more accurate way of putting it is – you get it FIRST. So while I was in the middle of the ILT course I got Ryan’s report on “YouTube Google Hack” and actually applied a couple of tweaks to one of the promo video’s we did for my buddy’s little brick & mortar business.
“BOOM” page one, with the video thumbnail, using his top competitors primary keyword!
So now I know this stuff is working, and I am feeling better about being able to help my buddy out so he could compete against his competitor, and I now KNOW that Laura teaches us REAL TIME stuff. Stuff happening TODAY! She tells us whats working, what isn’t, why, whats changing…. To me it was a non-issue whether or not I would invest in “Mobil Local Fusion”. So I did, and then I got another person wanting to “get online” but this time I know what I need to know to do really cool things with iPhones and codes and how to use Google Places to rank and – well – we are all making money now.
So guess what? Now I tell people “I am a Local Business Marketing Agent” – and that gets me business cards instead of blank stares 🙂
So I am really serious about growing this business now.
The next part that I am about to tell you – you don’t need to do – I have chosen to do it because I want to KNOW how to do everything. That’s just the way I am, I have this need to know HOW before I can decide whether or not I want to outsource.
By this time I want to know everything there is about Local Business Marketing and so I bought Kate Buck Jr.s”Let’s Get Social” – really excellent. She’s another great one on coaching. I have to hand it to Ryan – he can really pick some great people for training. This helped with all the social aspects involving Facebook, Twitter – and – she has been making updates (in REAL TIME) on using ‘Pinterest’. Social Media Marketing for local business is a MUST.
The one day I woke up and Google had merged Google Places with Google Plus and wasn’t sure what it meant. The very next coaching call with Laura we are talking about it and as always – she’s on top of it! Its a great feeling to have really smart people keeping up, and translating for you so you can help your clients.
Now the new course “Local Agency Startup” – has the outsourcing solution, all the new Google+ Pages stuff and of course Laura and her fabulous coaching! They have been working long and hard on the outsourcing solution and I am really happy its here. So of course I bought it!
And let me tell you what happened this week – I landed FOUR new business’s!
Invest in yourself and others will invest in you!
I guess you can say in conclusion (actually there is no conclusion to this, because its just growing, and learning and helping people) – If you are serious about building a business offline, and not looking for some silly “make money quick” BS, then I can tell you you can’t go wrong with any of the Local Business Marketing courses published by Ryan Deiss and his team. If you are wondering where to start? I would suggest starting with thenewest course first then decide from there.
You will learn how you can start your business and set up so you can start helping (and charging $$ for it) your community business people with the new course Local Agency Startup.
